Although Telstra’s published iPhone 3G plans are decidedly not “capped plans” of the type Vodafone and Optus are offering, one Telstra customer has told iTWire they were able to use their existing plan after buying an iPhone 3G from Telstra outright. What gives?

iTWire reader “Cy Starkman”, a resident of Alice Spings in the centre of Australia (where the famous Uluru Rock/Ayers Rock is located), told us of his interesting Telstra iPhone buying experiences today.

In the comments section of my Telstra iPhone 3G story entitled “OMG! Telstra iPhone 3G plans – worst in the world?”, Cy Starkman wrote a post called “Telstra changes tune”.

At first, in an earlier comment in the OMG! Telstra story, Cy was most displeased about Telstra’s published iPhone 3G pricing.

But Cy decided to go to his local Telstra shop anyway, saying in his comment: “After my disgust this morning I went into the local Telstra shop. Being in Alice Springs I was actually blown away that they were selected as one of the few stores to have it on day one.

“Also being in Alice Springs one is very aware that they have no choice but Telstra. Naturally being a smaller place I knew the sales people in there.”

Cy continued: “So, they are like, bet you are buying one. I respond, well sure, dig the phone but your plans are the worst ever. Sales people couldn't really argue that. Customers chuckled as we entered into a jovial back and forth.

“Anyway I say, so long, you guys lost the sale, I am calling Optus and getting one outright, pay the unlock fee and drop my Telstra SIM in.”

So... what happened next?! Please read on to page 2.
