iTWire reader Cy Starkman’s story gets even more interesting from this point onwards.

Cy says: “Then comes the winning move. But wait, we just got word from Melbourne half an hour ago, they faxed us up the pricing. If you are a Telstra customer you can buy it outright and use your existing plan.”

“So I walked out with a 16Gig iPhone and my $79 cap plan which at least has $550 calls etc. Even though I still get the lame data, it's nothing new.

“It was a bit convoluted but after a few trips through the various setting pages I think I have pretty much switched off anything that will be dragging down data without my knowledge.

“And here is the pearler. The shop told me that there are no Telstra apps due to content negotiations and to do anything will incur data costs.

“BUT the 'Free to Browse' wap site is squirrelled away deep in the settings, once you find it you can drop it in as an icon on the home screen and it clearly states, Bigpond iPhone site, free to browse. So the somewhat actually useful tools such as Yellow Pages, WhereIs, ABC news are all there, free to use.

“So I guess I can't really partake in my rant this morning. iPhone works well, amazingly it is a phone, who would have guessed LOL.

“Now if only I can work out how to remove the three Bigpond icons I added by accident while playing around.

“BTW it seemed as if there were minders in the store, they shadowed the sales people in regard to iPhone.”

Now I’m sure Cy could add a data plan to his existing plan if he wanted – that’s been possible for other Next G phones for some time now, with the 400MB plan costing AUD $59 per month, the 1GB plan costing $89 and the 3GB plan costing $114.95 or $119.
