Most of the fuss around the iPhone 3G launch has been about the consumer market, but enterprise software companies Oracle and Salesforce.com are already delivering business applications for Apple's coveted mobile phone.

Oracle's contribution is Oracle Business Indicators, a free application that works with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus and Oracle Business Intelligence Applications, Fusion Edition to deliver business intelligence to executives on the move.

"With Oracle Business Indicators, CFOs can view the latest company financial trends, sales managers can be alerted to sales performance and customer satisfaction issues, and commodity managers can quickly assess the viability of a supplier – all from the convenience of the iPhone," Oracle officials said.

Other examples given included monitoring stock levels or contact centre call volumes.

Oracle Business Indicators, which also works on the iPod touch, can present information in tabular or graphical form, with 'traffic light' coding and alerts to draw attention to key measures. It can be user-configured to display only relevant metrics.

"Today's business executives and mangers are highly mobile, and their information needs are too," said Ed Abbo, Oracle's senior vice president of application development. "We're excited to build out applications on the iPhone platform to support these highly mobile customers."

Find out what else is coming from Oracle, and what's already here from Salesforce.com on page 2!
