Page 1 of 2 Sadly Telstra is making Australians wait to find out if it has any other iPhone plans beyond the ones it has already announced, and has decided not to issue any details of the expected data inclusions each plan can expect. That said it is already known that Telstra will be providing free access to its Wi-Fi network for data use by iPhone customers, with Telstra having the largest series of Wi-Fi networks across major cities in Australia, something that will lower on-phone 3G data usage to some degree. In addition, no details of call charges or data charges once any included amounts are used up in on monthly basis have been announced, frustratingly making consumers interested in Telstra’s offerings wait until 6am on July 11 to find out. After all, if you live in a capital city or other major regional area, and rarely travel to rural and regional areas of Australia not covered by the 2100MHz 3.5G network, Optus and Vodafone may offer better value plans. That said, Telstra’s 99% nationwide coverage (in population terms) using the 850MHz frequency, which the iPhone 3G supports, means Telstra customers should always get a 3.5G signal and data speeds virtually wherever they are in Australia, and for some this will be an important distinction. Of course the most important distinction for many will be the price, so if you were hoping to closely evaluate these amongst the three carriers it looks like you’ll need to wait until July 11 or even afterwards to find out. None of this has stopped Telstra from letting potential customers know where the iPhone 3G will be available to buy on the day of launch, with Telstra spokesperson Peter Taylor announcing that: “Regional Australians will be among the first to get the iPhone 3G on the Next G network.” So where exactly will Telsta’s iPhone 3G be available from beyond its two flagship T-Life stores at 6am? Please read on to page 2. |
