DreamWorks Animation will produce all its future movies in stereoscopic 3D, and Intel's going to help.

Rendering animated movies is a big job, and 3D only adds to the demands on processing power. The strategic alliance (have you ever known companies to announce alliances that weren't strategic?) will provide DreamWorks with future multi-core CPUs, along with engineering assistance to optimise operation of the company's applications on those chips.

The additional computing power will make rendering faster (or at least less slow), as well as making it easier for artists to modify their work.

"Our objective is to significantly heighten the movie going experience using DreamWorks Animation's ground-breaking 3-D filmmaking tools," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation.

"Technology plays a significant role in enabling our artists to tell great stories. By utilizing Intel's industry-leading computing products, we will create a new and innovative way for moviegoers to experience our films in 3-D."

Intel's talking up the deal, presumably with the intention of attracting other moviemakers.

What did Intel's head honcho have to say? Please read on.
