A leading pearl jewelry supplier in China, Shecy Pearls established their website in 2006 and started their online business. After one year, they became the biggest pearl jewelry online store.

“We go E-commerce not only because we want to expand the business and get more sales, but the main purpose is to promote our brand,” says Michael Zhou, the CEO of Shecy Pearls. “Though our physical stores have being going quite well, the popularity was growing very slowly. We mainly depend on “word-of-mouth”, which means new customers knew us mostly from the recommendation of their friends who were our previous customers. So even we already established reputation, we were not so well-known.”

“We’ve also had a lot of customers who asked if we had a website. So we thought it was the time to establish our online store, not only for promotion, but also convenient for our customers.”

Before Shecy Pearls built their website, most people hardly know them. Potential customers finally get a chance to know Shecy. When Shecy is recognized by more and more customers, “word-of-mouth” spreads much faster on Internet than in real life.

“Before we opened the online shop, our sales volume largely depends on overseas tourists’ visit. We mostly wait for people from overseas to travel here. There is always a big difference between busy season and quiet season of tourism. We really have a very good sale in busy season each year, but we found it was just a waste of business opportunity for quiet season,” says Paul. “Now together with the growing popularity, we can easily get so much more sales without season difference effect, at least not so much.”

E-commerce has already become a trend in business area. Today website is a platform for customers and companies to communicate. It is becoming an essential for businesses.
