The rebels strike back against eBay PayPal empire

Realising the ACCC’s powers may no longer apply now that eBay has withdrawn its notice to force PayPal onto buyers, and realising that the eBay empire still wishes to force PayPal onto its seller citizens, the rebels are marshalling their forces for battle! Is the force with them? Fighting against the dark side of the eBay is a co-ordinated group of sellers who have contacted iTWire with the news they are “now moving this campaign up a gear in recognition that the ACCC process has come to an abrupt halt with eBay's notification withdrawal.” The group says that they “recognise that the ACCC may not be as effective at present.” In addition, the group of rebels fighting against the eBay forces of PayPal inform us that: “We have been in contact with Chris Bowen's office today to explain our ongoing concerns over eBay's actions and our points have been well received as our concerns mesh neatly with planned and imminent changes to legislation. We are now preparing documents for his office to consider.  “In parallel with this we are now, through the eBay discussion boards, rallying a very large number of eBay members to individually write to the Treasurer, relevant Ministers, ASIC and the parties listed below.  “This, together with other steps we have planned will ultimately deliver our objectives.  eBay will have to back pedal fast - PayPal will not be a mandated option, eBay/PayPal will have to become a party to the EFT code of conduct, and both will be obliged to respect all of the consumer laws of this country.  “No more hiding behind "we are just a venue" whenever the going gets tough.  If eBay thought that Australia was a soft target for sweeping global change we are determined to prove to a watching world just how wrong eBay is. “The "next chapter" of this story is potentially bigger than the last.”  iTWire has been advised that the following letter, which we have received permission to reprint, is being sent to the various Ministers for Consumer Affairs, Fair Trading, Attorneys-General, Justice and Workplace relations in all states and territories of Australia including at the Federal level.
