Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo set to shock and awe at E3 E-mail

Sony are also in the running to get their own new motion controller out there, deliver more news on Sony’s online plans for “Home”, movies and other online initiatives, as well as showcase ever more games.

Whichever way you look at it, the next six months of 2008 will be the launchpad for greatness until the end of the current cycle, and with the market predicted to continue growing even in the face of an economic downturn, it’s possible that all three platforms could continue their winning ways.

Having these three major players stay strong is great for the industry and gamers, too. More competition, more ideas, more innovation... who’d want a world where only one company was the winner?

It’d be a bit like Blu-ray after the death of HD DVD... prices have gone up, not down, there’s no more competitive pressure. Well there is some pressure from upscaling DVD and some from downloads, but Blu-ray is just coasting along. It was a lot more fun when HD DVD was still around!

So... we’ve all been hyped up to expect greatness at the 2008 E3. Woe betide the company that doesn’t deliver on their promises, for they’ll earn little but the scorn of gamers who expected better.

But I don’t believe we’ll be in for any bad shocks. Instead I expect all three companies will do their best to shock and awe us instead. In seven days we’ll all know!
