The Hobart organisers held their usual "ghosts" meeting - a debriefing session - with the organisers of the 2008 event recently; Powell said that one idea that came up during the meeting was the expansion of the open day, which is held on the Saturday after the conference. With this in mind, he said, they were looking for a large venue for the open day so that it could accommodate more of the public and help to popularise Linux, other free and open source software and associated technologies. In a media release, Powell said: "The conference provides a unique opportunity for Tasmanians to discuss their ideas on an international stage, and for business to support IT innovation. "This year's Linux conference is expected to bring 700 delegates to the Tasmania to enjoy one of Australia's premiere technical conferences, with presentations by many of the leading experts in free and open source software.
