Microsoft pleasantly shocks users with no critical Vista updates E-mail

Patch Tuesday will also see the customary release of updates for the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and the Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter.

On July 10, Microsoft will begin to push XP Service Pack 3 via Automatic Update.

Later in the month, changes to the Windows Update service will require a new version of the Windows Update client running on individual PCs. While the look and feel is hardly changed, the time needed to determine whether new updates are required has been reduced in the new version.

The new Windows Update client will be updated without user intervention unless unless the PC's Automatic Updates setting is "Never check for updates" (Vista) or "Turn off Automatic Updates" (XP). Microsoft explains that settings such as "Notify me but don't automatically install them" are overridden to ensure that users are correctly notified of any subsequent security updates.
