30 years on and Space Invaders is back! E-mail

Space Invaders Extreme has been released outside of Japan this week, at long last, and really has been worth the wait. Don't dismiss it because it's a 2D game in a distinctly 3D world, that is part of the charm. I think I can honestly say that it really would not still be Space Invaders if it had followed that virtual immersion route.

It most certainly would not have been one of a very few games which can truly lay claim to having revised and updated an all time classic and ended up making the gaming experience even better than the original, that's for sure.

In fact, in terms of sheer playability and that all important (and oh so elusive) addiction factor, Space Invaders Extreme is right up there with Dr Kawashima's Brain Training. Both are pretty good reasons to invest in a Nintendo DS. Anyway, you would need very deep pockets in the financial and literal sense to carry around an original version of Space Invaders...
