Page 1 of 2 But users are beginning to report that their me.com addresses are already working. Give it a try, but don't be surprised if your account hasn't been transitioned yet - it isn't unusual for major changes to take a week or more to spread across all users of large-scale online services. A sensible move on Apple's part is that mac.com email addresses will continue to work in parallel into the indefinite future. So messages sent to <user>@mac.com will show up when checking the <user>@me.com account, and vice versa. One place where the two addresses will serve as two different identities is iChat. And while a mac.com address continues to work with iChat even if the subscription is allowed to lapse, Apple has warned that a me.com address will only work with iChat while the MobileMe account is active. MobileMe is a revamped version of the .Mac Internet service. The change of name appears to be driven by the added support for the iPhone, as iPhone owners may not identify with the .mac.com domain name. What else does it offer? Please turn to page 2. |
