Kournaves added, "This is more evidence for water because salts are there. We also found a reasonable number of nutrients, or chemicals needed by life as we know it. Over time, I've come to the conclusion that the amazing thing about Mars is not that it's an alien world, but that in many aspects, like mineralogy, it's very much like Earth." He also commented, “Some kinds of Earth life would be happy to live in these soils. Asparagus, green beans and turnips love alkaline soils." [ComputerWorld]

Kournaves added, "There's nothing about it that's toxic. If you had it here, you could grow something in it. We found that a broader range of life could grow there. It allows for the possibility for an environment like you would find on Earth, with a lot of different organisms. The amazing thing about Mars is not that it's not an alien world, but it's actually quite familiar." [ComputerWorld]

The Phoenix Mars Lander scientists are very excited about the accomplishements that the spacecraft has made so far.

They are even more anxious to see what it can do in the remainder of its mission on the planet.
