Page 2 of 3 Intriguingly, 3 Mobile’s statement that: “While the iPhone won’t be available through 3 at the time of launch, 3 hopes it will come to 3 Stores soon” could well be a sneakily clever ploy to get its customers to wait before getting an iPhone from Optus or Vodafone. Featured Whitepaper

“Until then” refers to the time when 3 Mobile WILL be able to sell the iPhone 3G, if that actually does ever happen, with 3 Mobile clearly suggesting any iPhone it offers will also have “great value... caps, data plans and handset offers”. And 3 Mobile’s Noel Hamill did reference the fact that consumers want "the value 3 offers" with the iPhone. Hamill then avoided making any lightsaber noises whatsoever when he said that: “For some, the iPhone is all they want, and we want to offer it to them, but until we can, we’re going to be making sure we do all that we can to deliver the best prices on the best mobiles currently available.” It really does seem like a plea to customers not to race off to get the iPhone from elsewhere but to wait for Three Mobile to instead get it soon – with the temptation of better plans and good things on offer for those who wait, even though some have already been waiting since January 2007! After all, if you've waited this long already, a few weeks more waiting shouldn’t hurt, and if 3 Mobile’s allusions of great pricing are to be believed and expected for any iPhone it offers, a little extra time waiting could certainly be very pleasurable when it comes to a much lower drain on your wallet. 3 Mobile are also using SMS technology to its utmost potential by advising that its customers can send an SMS message (from tomorrow) containing the word ‘iPhone’ to 333000 to “receive a form so they can enter their comments from their mobile”. These mesages will presumably will appear on 3 Mobile’s Apple iPhone site (live from Friday June 27 - right now on the 26th it asks you for a user name and password.) Whether Apple will succumb to this very public request, or instead be offended at public manipulation, is yet to be seen. Ah, the unpredictability of Apple, so unpredictable you can rely on it!
