All O2 Stores will be offering pre-registration credit checks from July 1st. Customers can get a credit check done on the spot and have a 'paused' contact opened there are then. No need to specify a handset, no contract actually activated, but everything in place for when you do purchase a handset. Like an iPhone 3G for example.

No iPhones will be allowed out of the shop without a credit check and a contract being in place. Apparently Apple are determined to prevent the UK from being used as a distribution centre for unlocked iPhone 3G's.

O2 Stores will open early on the 11th July, the launch date for the iPhone 3G, and 7am was the time suggested.

And the big one: customers with a pre-registered credit check and a paused contract in place will be able to simply walk in, activate the contract, and walk out with a brand new early adopter iPhone 3G and a very broad grin.

And a little less money in your wallet.

A 16GB iPhone 3G in the UK will be free on the O2 £75 (AUD $150) monthly tariff, £59 (AUD $118) on the £45 (AUD $90) tariff and £159 (AUD $318) on the £30 (AUD $60) and £35 (AUD $70) tariffs.

The 8GB iPhone 3G will be free on both £45 (AUD $90) and £75 (AUD $150) tariffs, and £99 (AUD $198) on the £30 (AUD $60) and £35 (AUD $70) tariffs.
