Perth based mining service company, Macmahon Holdings, has selected Nortel to provide a secure data and VoIP network connection its more than 700 computer users across Asia Pacific. Nortel has provided a core network based on its ethernet routing switch (ERS) 5530 which connects Macmahon's two primary, metropolitan area sites with 10 gigabit ethernet. On the edge of the head office network is Nortel's ERS 5520, a power over ethernet routing switch. Layer 2 ERS 3510 gigabit switches will be deployed at remote sites. Network management will be via Nortel's Optivity switch manager and Optivity policy manager from the head office. The network has been deployed and will be supported by data networking and process control specialists Applicon, a Nortel nPower partner. Separately, McMahon is trialling IP telephony.
