Page 1 of 2 This is the first time Facebook has been ahead of MySpace on this measure. Since being opened up to the general public in late 2006, Facebook has been steadily gaining ground on MySpace in terms of market popularity. But if the focus is on the US, MySpace is still well ahead with more than 73 million unique visitors - more than double Facebook's 35 million. Speaking at the Cannes Lions 2008 International Advertising Festival, News Corp chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch described Facebook as being merely "a directory", while MySpace is "a real social network", according to News Corp publication The Australian. "People go there [MySpace] to look for people with common interests rather than to look for people they know," he said.
