We didn’t have such large percentages of overweight people thirty years ago. Most of us, today, do not have a physically active professional life. We sit behind a desk rather than walking behind a plow horse. In other words, they ate highly nutritious foods, reasonable amounts of food, and exercised on a daily basis, out of a necessity to make a living. Forty years ago, in addition, our ancestors didn’t have the large numbers of fast food restaurants that today pervade highly industrialized countries like the United States, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, etc. (Remember: get rid of one letter, "s," and "fast food" becomes "fat food".) However, we are in a similar situation today as our ancestors were forty years ago. They were forced to exercise out of a necessity to make a living. Today, we need to make a serious effort to exercise and eat good food out of a necessity to stay healthy and avoid excessive health problems associated with being overweight. It may be an international problem, but the solution lies within each one of us.
