As Greg Day, a security analyst for McAfee, told us:

"Cyber criminals are always looking for new ways to trick us into downloading malware so it's no surprise that they're exploiting our fascination with celebrity and sports stars.  When PC users across the country are surfing for news on the current Euro 2008 tournament, attackers are provided with the perfect opportunity to mask their attacks behind this major event and target a large and susceptible audience."

Last year the dubious honour of being the celebrity associated with most suspicious websites went to none other than Paris Hilton. Hardly ever out of the news, she roved the perfect foil to lure victims into assorted cybercrime traps.

"Cyber criminals employ a number of methods to fool us" Day reminds us "but one of the most simple and effective ways is to trick us into infecting ourselves."
