In addition, you can select a phone number in almost any application and then use the Services menu to dial or SMS. Talk about telephony convenience.

"Back in 10.4 it was possible to dial a number and send a text message from the Address Book using a cell phone connected over Bluetooth." said nova media spokesperson Jan Fuellemann.

"Apple has discontinued this option in 10.5. We did not only bring it back to life, but have improved it as well."

Phone Plugins requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later, and works with a variety of Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson handsets.

A demo version of the €9.95 program is available, so you can confirm that it works with your phone before buying a licence.

Nova media has also updated FoneLink , its software for file exchange, data synchronisation, file management and backup between mobile phones and Mac OS X.

The new release includes bug fixes and improves operation with Samsung handsets.

The biggest irony of them all? It doesn't work with the iPhone. I'm inclined to blame Apple's intentionally crippled Bluetooth implementation for that. Thanks, Apple.

But those with Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones, plus a mere €9.95 to spend on Phone Plugins, nova media returneth what Apple taketh away. Hallelujah!
