EzyDVD hopes EzyDownload will lead to Ezy success E-mail

Giving Telstra BigPond 40% of the Australian market, EzyDownload says that competing ISPs represent “roughly 60% of broadband connections in Australia and over 2.5 million homes with connectivity of at least 1.5 Mbps.”

Given BigPond CEO, Justin Milne’s major speech at a recent conference in Cannes, talking up Telstra BigPond’s massive content competency, BigPond clearly won’t take the EzyDownload threat lying down.

If EzyDownload will offer “download-to-own” in addition to online download rental services, we can be certain that BigPond will soon follow – and will probably try to beat EzyDownload to the download-to-own punch with an actual ownership offering, as opposed to just an announcement.

But to take advantage of any Telstra offer you really would want to be a BigPond customer, and with many professing to prefer alternative ISPs that don’t charge for uploads and who offer more generous download limits, EzyDownload will be a formidable contender that should push competition between the two to the limit.

In the meantime, the cinema itself will continue to show the latest movies first, Foxtel will be showing and selling movies too, and the death of DVD and Blu-ray is still some time off yet.

Whatever happens – make sure you’ve got plenty of popcorn!
