Page 1 of 3 Then a newspaper report yesterday that Telstra would be selling the iPhone 3G after all, probably on July 22, 11 days after Optus and Vodafone, further putting pressure on consumers who want to know which plan will be the best on offer. Already we know that the iPhone 3G works on Telstra’s 850MHz Next G network – it’s one of the three HSDPA frequencies the iPhone supports. And we know that Telstra has the biggest coverage, giving Australians who want one phone they can use almost anywhere, at 3.5G speeds, with the likely “penalty” being the likelihood of the highest prices. After all, if anyone’s going to truly make a buck out of the world’s most desirable digital telecommunications device – besides Apple – it’s going to be Telstra, right? And then there’s Zibri, of Ziphone fame, who recently leaked the list of supported telco’s in the iPhone 2.0 firmware, and surprise, surprise: there’s Telstra in the list, right alongside Optus and Vodafone, although Three Mobile is missing. Telstra not being announced prior to the WWDC launch had everyone wondering why not? But now the news is out that Telstra will soon make an announcement, we have some questions, and some possible answers. Sol Trujillo is said to be making an announcement “next week”. Well, what important Telstra event is happening next week that we know about? And will the iPhone work at “up to” 7.2Mbps speeds, or will it be limited to the slower 3.6Mbps class of HSDPA speeds?
