Telstra 3G iPhone announcement to come 26th June? E-mail

Optus and Vodafone will also have networks in the future that will run at the same speeds.

But today, most of their infrastructure is still running at 3.6Mbps. Which means that an Optus or Vodafone iPhone 3G, when in 3.5G coverage, will likely only run at speeds of 500Kbps to 1.5Mbps.

Half the speed of Telstra. Which will give Telstra yet another reason to have higher prices, one of the very same reasons they use today for higher pricing on its Next G network.

So... it seems clear that Sol Trujillo will announce the iPhone 3G on June 26 at the opening of Australia’s second T[Life] store, in Melbourne’s CBD.

And he’ll announce that it’s 7.2Mbps compatible. What he probably won’t announce are the voice and data plans, nor the actual price the iPhone 3G will sell for from Telstra.

It’ll be great if he does – I’m sure Optus and Vodafone are very keen to find out, especially as they have not made any pricing announcements yet either.

All we’re waiting for now is Three Mobile, whose customer service representatives have been saying to customers in store that they’ll have the iPhone 3G sometime after July 11, too.

Although officially, Three Mobile are still saying nothing.

With four telecommunications companies selling the iPhone 3G in Australia, we truly will be the most competitive iPhone market on the planet. I just hope consumers are the winners from all that competition!
