The OpenServ 2400 is a 2U model with six drive bays and otherwise similar specifications. The OpenServ models compete with Apple's Xserve, which is is available with a single 2.8GHz, or dual 2.8 or 3.0GHz Xeon CPUs. Psystar provides the choice of 2.5 or 2.66GHz parts. Apple also wins in terms of maximum memory configuration, offering up to 32G compared with Psystar's 16G. Apart from price, the OpenServ's main advantage is in storage: the four or six drive bays trump the Xserve's three, although Apple does offer an optional battery-backed RAID card. Time will tell whether the Apple server market will opt for quality or price, or if Psystar can deliver the best of both worlds. |
