Flock 2.0 promises all the same benefits as Firefox 3.0 – faster speed for sites like Google Mail and Zoho Office, faster page rendering thanks to the Gecko 1.9 web page rendering engine, a reduced memory footprint and a nicer user interface.

It also offers Firefox 3.0’s better malware detection and blocking, site security validated within the address bar and an improved password manger. Firefox 3.0’s ‘auto-complete’ navigation bar is also there, as is the improved ‘Favorites Manager’ and a download manager that lets you resume downloads you’ve paused even after you’ve restarted the browser.

Shawn Hardin, CEO of Flock said: “Flock is thrilled to announce the Flock 2.0 beta. Thousands of global developers and contributors have made Mozilla's open source technology the best in the world”.

Hardin continued: “Now our users can experience the best of both worlds with all of the performance and security improvements of Firefox 3, combined with Flock’s unique social browsing experience.”

Flock 1.2 won a 2008 Webby Award for Social Networking against other social networking tools and sites such as Ning, Facebook and Bebo, which is pretty impressive.

There are also a stack of add-ons and extensions to Flock, just as there are for Firefox, to enhance the browsing experience even further. So what's different about Flock 2 compared to previous versions? Please read on to page 3
