From Lotus to Microsoft mail and back – magic, or just a trick? E-mail

Most of the migrations we hear about are from Notes to Exchange, so as you might imagine, Microsoft is enthusiastic.

"We expect that AXS-One's solution will have a dramatic impact on the cost and time it takes our customers to migrate their Notes mail users to Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office Outlook," said Jim Bernardo, director of Microsoft's enterprise and partner group.

"Because it enables users to have access to all their existing Notes mail from their new Outlook environment without needing to convert any of that mail from Notes to Exchange, we feel this solution has the potential to accelerate the rate at which users can be transitioned to the Exchange/Outlook environment."

There's one snag: the software isn't expected to ship until the third quarter - still, that could be as little as 15 days from today.

As for 'magic', the late Arthur C Clarke reckoned any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, and we think any mail administrator that can tell his or her users that they're moving to a new mail system but that all their old messages will still be available will be considered a wizard.

But don't take our word for it - anyone seriously interested should check the AXS-One brew for themselves to see if its software potions have the desired effect!
