But from an mail administrator's point of view, it's quite magical as it provides users with access to old messages from their new client software without requiring the bulk conversion of the message store. How is that done? By leaving the conversion until old messages are actually accessed. Company officials claim this is achieved with "full fidelity", with any attachments, links, encryption being preserved. The approach works by using a single archive for both servers, and making the archive contents available directly from user's mailboxes. It makes you wonder why this approach hasn't been used before, as moving between mail servers is a major task and often means leaving old messages behind. "AXS-One's new Dynamic Data Migrator software is the answer for organisations who want to migrate their messaging platform but hesitate due to email or Domino application conversion costs," said David Thompson, managing director of AXS-One. As well as saving mail administrators' time by avoiding bulk conversion, this approach also saves disk space when migrating. Not only does is avoid the duplication of messages that may never be needed again, it also avoids the loss of data compression when moving from Notes to Exchange.
