Apple unleashes second Mac OS X 10.5.4 developer build E-mail

"Worse is the fact that so many things have ceased to function under 10.5 where they worked satisfactorily for years prior to the 10.5 release in October of last year.

"When significant pieces of this code have been correct, reliable, and stable for up to twenty years due to the initial work of the NeXT programmers it is simply inexcusable that this code be incorrectly 'discovered' and consequently ruined by the current staff."

Since Mac OS X 10.5.4 also reflects the renaming of Apple's online service from .Mac to MobileMe, the operating system update is expected on or before July 11 (also the day when the iPhone 3G goes on sale).

For Tiger users, systems running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will also be able to access MobileMe.

Apple has also stated that MobileMe will require iTunes 7.7, so watch out for that update in the same timeframe.

MobileMe includes mail, contacts and calendar that can be accessed by computers, iPhones, iPod touches, and web-based applications. It also provides a photo gallery and general-purpose online storage.
