Arrrrgggh! My eyes!  The colours, they burn, I cannot see were I am driving.  Oh!  It doesn’t matter.

As a kid I realise how much I loved the Speed Racer cartoon. Pseudo Manga, which along with Kimba was a respite from giant robots for Japanese themed animation.

So now the kids are enjoying the Hollywood movie and inevitably the video game.

There will be an entire generation – and me – with burnt retinas and dazzled expressions after viewing the movie or playing this game.  Be warned.

Amongst all the cartoony colour saturation is a reasonable tense and satisfactory racing game for the Wii.  Sidhe Interactive has taken inspiration from F-Zero GX, Wipeout and their own PS2 GripShift to create this blur of phosphorous disguised as a video game.

Doing the numbers, Speed Racer allows players to choose from (after unlocks) 20 different car/driver combos, this includes Speed Racer himself in the white Mach 6. 

13 garishly painted tracks that loop and dive through five vibrant environments.

After a lengthy – at least in loading screen times – tutorial process, budding cartoon racers are ready to hit the tracks and take on the opposition characters in what would be a nightmarish world - if it wasn’t for the colour pallet-  of violent and fast combat racing.

The single player championship consists of a number of rounds with your chosen racer, attempting to have a podium finish to unlock further steps in the championship.  Moving through the three levels of championship sees speeds and opponent numbers ramp up.
