iPhone 3G: coming soon, but what price outside the US? E-mail

Those anticipating immediate delivery of the new iPhone 3G have had their hopes dashed, with shipments starting in a little over a month. But how much will non-US customers have to pay?

The new iPhone will go on sale on July 11 as reported in iTWire. The first lucky countries are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US.

At this stage, the price is only known for the US, where it will cost $US199 for the 8G model and $US299 for the 16G model. A two-year contract with AT&T will be required.

In Australia, Optus says pricing and plans will be available "at a later date" while Vodafone will spill the beans "soon". One thing that Vodafone has revealed - and that's certain to be welcomed by some potential buyers - is that the iPhone 3G will be available on prepay as well as contract plans.

The situation seems much the same in the other 'first wave' countries: the July 11 release date is confirmed, but there's no news of prices or plans yet.
