Apple patent hints at videoconferencing for iPhone E-mail

Anyway, by shoehorning as much relevant stuff into the patent as possible, Apple increases its chances of being able to take successful action against anyone it believes is encroaching on its intellectual property. It also improves the chance that there will be something left if any aspects are knocked out due to the existence of earlier patents or prior art.

As far as I can see, the publication of the patent application a week and a half before the anticipated iPhone unveiling is no more than a coincidence.  That said, suggestions that the new model may have a GPS module are plausible (though battery life might be an issue), and some markets expect to be able to make video calls on a 3G phone.

And for all the iPhone haters out there: just one more week and the fuss should die down!
