Intel releasing Centrino 2 a month late citing technical problems

Page 1 of 2 ! Intel's much anticipated next generation wireless laptop platform Centrino 2 has had its release pushed back by more than a month because of technical issues. The new release date is now the first week of August and Intel has put its PR division into issues management mode to explain the reasons for the delay. Centrino 2, code-named Montevina, is the fifth iteration of the Centrino chipset. It includes among other things a Core 2 Duo processor made using 45nm process with clock speeds ranging from 2.26 GHz to 3.06 GHz, as well as advanced wirless networking features, including support for WiMAX. The Centino 2 launch was originally scheduled to coincide with Computex Taipei 2008 on June 3 - 7. Then it was pushed back to late June and now August, although the Intel spokesperson told iTWire in a phone call that the new release date would be July 14. The problems, as outlined by Intel, relate to the integrated graphics chipsets and wireless antennas. In an email to iTWire, Intel has outlined the current state of play: "We are pushing out our event launch date of Centrino2 from late June to the first week of August. "Two reasons for this delay: 1)       We found a minor problem with our integrated graphics chipsets and we’re taking an extra couple of weeks to re-screen them. 2)       We need some extra time to address some Ts and Cs (terms and conditions) mistakes while filing and testing our wireless antennas. "Therefore, the new dates for launching this product: ·         On July 14th we will introduce our Core and Extreme mobile processors and begin initial shipments of some of our chipsets. ·         We expect to ship our complete line of chipsets and wireless chips in high volume a couple of weeks later, the first week of August. "Our launch date with the complete Centrino2 showcase line-up will take place in early August." So what does mean for the laptop market between now and August?
