Yahoo! sets law loose on the spammers again E-mail
by Stephen Withers

But the scale of spam remains frightening. Yahoo! alone blocks one billion spam and fraudulent messages per day addressed to its Mail users. Still, "Yahoo! is 100 percent committed to protecting our users from fraudulent e-mail messages and this lawsuit sends a clear message to spammers," said John Kremer, vice president, Yahoo! Mail.

Despite the efforts of Kremer and his colleagues, it seems the spammers are still winning. Websense currently reports that nine out of ten emails are spam, while Symantec's estimate is a little over eight out of ten. Thirty years after the first spam was sent, the activity is increasingly the domain of organised crime rather than opportunist individuals.
