After all he did perform a mock handshake on stage with the holographic likeness of Dr Bradlow. However, there is one essential missing ingredient - and it's a big one - bandwidth. With the current state of broadband worldwide barely able to support the Internet traffic we already have - even VoIP calls can sometimes be patchy - the cost of tranporting Gigabytes of high definition holographic 3-D images in real time is currently prohibitive. Telstra assures us, however, that in say five or so years hologram to hologram communications may be an affordable reality.
