Page 1 of 2 Perhaps there are 42Mbps chipsets in the labs, but has Telstra, the Australian telco that is supposed to get a 42Mbps HSPA network up and running by the end of 2009, and the world’s first telco to do it at that, really claimed the 3G iPhone will run at that speed when launched on June 9? I guess we won’t know until June 9 comes and goes, but here’s what ChannelNews claims an anonymous Telstra executive said: "We know what is coming we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA. By Xmas this phone will be capable of 42mbs which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world.” Our friendly anonymous Telstra executive is supposed to have added: "We believe that this will be a major driver for many peope (sic) to invest in a new smart phone it will will (sic) also create a big buzz as many vendors plan to launch new smart phones at the same time". Wow, that Telstra executive needs a spell and grammar checker on his or her comments, but perhaps they were just really excited. ChannelNews also claims Telstra says they have 3G iPhones in Australia that they’re testing, and perhaps they do, although Telstra hasn’t yet publicly confirmed it will sell the iPhone in Australia. So, will Telstra ever announce they are going to sell the iPhone, a sure pre-requisite to any truth being assigned to this rumour? And what about that rumour concerning Steve Jobs' grandmother?
