The Cisco survey did find that 31 percent of respondents did refer to the ability to view content they missed when originally broadcast, and it seems unlikely they are all talking about official downloads given the paucity of such services in Australia.

A limited range of shows or clips from the ABC and commercial broadcasters is made available via network web sites, but typically for streaming rather than downloading. TV shows are not available for purchase from the iTunes store, for example.

Internet rights to certain content have been stitched up by particular providers, such as BigPond's deal with the AFL (Australian Football League) and V8 Supercars.

Nearly 1100 people in Australia and New Zealand were surveyed in November 2007 by research consultancy Illuminas.
