AMD then promises simplicity, suggesting that we “imagine a PC platform of perfectly matched components for the high-quality gaming you crave”, so you get “the latest gaming features in an affordable, easy-to-manage system.”

AMD’s next promise is innovation, touting the “latest ATI Radeon HD graphics technology and true multi-core processing with an AMD Phenom Processor”, saying that “even the most high-powered games are within your command”.

AMD also assures compatibility with “Microsoft DirectX 10.1 graphics capabilities and support for 1080p HD video [with a suitably equipped 1080p capable screen], audio, and displays [showcasing] every vibrant, immersive detail.”

AMD also promises you’ll have “performance to spare”, and that a GAME! labelled system is what “you get when you take a PC platform created for amazing games and combine it with games created for an amazing PC platform.”

Companies such as Acer, Alienware (Dell), Logitech and Microsoft are “joining forces” with AMD to promote the concept, so it looks like AMD is really pushing to make the next 6 months of 2008 a real battle, not only with Intel, but with Microsoft’s Xbox 360, the PS3, the Wii and other forms of gaming entertainment.

Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research in Tiburon, California said that: “AMD GAME! is a new initiative focused on delivering a novel experience for consumers, addressing a problem that has long existed in the PC industry until now."

Peddie continues: "Our research has shown that PC gaming is on the rise and this effort from AMD not only rallies industry support for PC gaming but also acknowledges that computer gaming needs balanced systems for the best consumer experience.”

So, what does Microsoft think – especially as it promotes PC gaming in direct competition with sales of the Xbox 360? And isn’t it all just marketing, anyway? Please read on to page 3.
