Exinda Networks Launches New Melbourne R&D Facility PDF E-mail
Thursday, 15 May 2008
May 15, 2008 – Melbourne - Exinda Networks, a leading provider of wide area network (WAN) optimisation solutions, today unveiled a new research and development centre in Melbourne that will fast track the company’s ability to deliver innovative solutions to the marketplace.

Officially launched today by the Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology, The Honorable Theo Theophanous, the 1,200 square metre research facility will house 25 engineers and is capable of virtually simulating IT application speed improvements for organisations with up to 2,000 offices.  The facility houses firmware development labs, a product appliance testing centre, a warehouse and administration offices.

Exinda has invested $2.5 million in the new facility with an emphasis on state of the art software, hardware and testing equipment. By adopting the industry standard Agile framework for software development, Exinda is now able to deliver high quality production software in monthly cycles rather than in six month periods.  This in turn will help the company to stay highly competitive.

Established in 2002, Exinda Networks provides Wide Area Network (WAN) optimisation solutions that improve the speed at which applications run between data centres and branch offices across the WAN.  Exinda’s WAN optimisation technology ensures predictable application performance and reduces network operating expenses by classifying, prioritising and accelerating applications and controlling recreational Internet traffic.

The co-founders of Exinda Networks, Chris Siakos and Con Nikolouzakis, are graduates from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).  Exinda continues its close ties with RMIT by investing in university projects to deliver leading edge software to commercial environments.  Exinda also regularly recruits some of the top talent from RMIT for its research and development team.

Chris Siakos, chief technology officer at Exinda Network said, “The new facility will help Exinda continue to gain momentum and deliver innovation faster in the WAN optimisation market.   Over the past six years, we have helped more than 1,500 businesses worldwide to maximise the efficiency of their networks, control networking operating costs and keep their employees productive by ensuring their applications respond in a fast, consistent fashion.  With our new Australian-based research facility, we will continue to deliver top-notch technology that solves customers’ application performance problems as their networks evolve over time.”

Last year, Exinda Networks completed its first found of equity funding of US$6 million from OpenView Venture Partners, a venture capital investment firm based in Boston.  This has enabled the company to expand its international operations with offices now in Boston, Salt Lake City, Amsterdam, Dubai, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur, London, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Zurich.

In addition, last October, Exinda Networks was awarded a US$1.1 million contract from the Malaysia’s Government Integrated Telecom Network (GITN) as part of the Malaysian government's bandwidth management project that involves deploying Exinda WAN optimisation appliances at more than 700 networked government sites.

According to an October, 2007 Gartner report entitled "Forecast: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide, 2005-2012," the worldwide WAN optimisation controller market will grow from US$972 million in 2007 to US$2.67 billion in 2012.

Exinda’s annual revenue grew 250 percent in 2007 over 2006 and similar growth is expected in 2008.  The new Melbourne research and development facility is located at 13 Harper Street, Abbotsford.
