Asus Eee PC 900 set to square off against HP Mini-Note PC PDF E-mail

Given that HP intends to offer the Mini-Note 2133 in a range of configurations, it will soon be eminently possible to spend less than AUD $899 to buy one.

HP promises the 211 Mini-Note PC will be buildable to order – with a 4GB SSD (solid state drive) option, the option of Linux, FreeDOS, and Vista Home Basic, among other options, all of which promise to lower the price of the existing two models, making them even more price competitive with the Eee PC 900.

This will naturally put pressure on Asus to release even better versions of the Eee PC to fend off the competition from HP and other competitors who have already started making Eee PC-like devices – Everex and others overseas haven’t wasted any time in doing so.

Asus can truly be praised for breaking through the cheap, yet still powerful PC barrier – certainly much more so than the XO OLPC will ever be recognised for so doing.

While all the focus will soon be on both the Eee PC 900 and the HP Mini-Note, this segment of the market will surely only accelerate over this year and next, as the Asus-led, ultra-cheap subnotebook market does what Microsoft’s “Origami” ultra-mobile (and ultra-expensive) handheld computers could never do – making ultra-portable computing ultra-popular – and ultra-affordable!

iTWire is set to receive an Eee 900 PC in the next 24 hours, and we’ll be writing out own in-depth review on the unit soon, and while we also eagerly await delivery of an HP 2133 Mini-Note PC to trial, the Eee 900 PC is the most anticipated – and most affordable sub-notebook computer of the year – and we can’t wait to get our hands on it!
