MYOB now hosts sites – but when will it offer hosted MYOB? E-mail

That said, MYOB’s pricing does look very attractive, and that is certainly one reason to consider changing over, especially if your current service is very expensive, although you could always approach your existing host with the threat to change to MYOB to see if they’ll give you a better deal.

As far as a ‘solution’ goes the actual website is a pretty big piece of the puzzle, otherwise it’s like renting or owning a block of land that doesn’t actually have a house or unit on it to live in. If you STILL haven’t got a website now, you’re going to need more handholding than an offer from MYOB to host a website and email for you.

MYOB’s Managing Director, Tim Reed, says that MYOB’s “new web focus will give its customers the opportunity to complete a wide range of business transactions on the web, including the ability to simply and securely buy and sell online”.

He also says that “our customers are just starting to embrace the web and are looking for a trusted provider to help them establish a professional online presence and then, in time, to integrate existing business processes, such as invoicing, into their website”.

But it’s obvious that without the help of building an actual website – and without yet offering the incorporation of “business processes such as invoicing” and other MYOB accounting functions into an online offering similar to Salesforce.com, MYOB’s new “web hosting solution” isn’t very exciting just yet, but will be a lot more exciting “in time”.

It’s just yet another web hosting solution, something which MYOB should have gotten involved with 10 years ago – albeit at what look like quite competitive prices for business grade solutions along with business grade equipment and business grade support.

Aside from free domain name registration (until June 30, 2008) and a 30% discount for existing MYOB Partners (or a 20% discount for MYOB Cover customers), new MYOB web hosting customers can expect a 2 year domain name registration to cost AUD $35, email-only hosting to cost “from AUD $14.95 per month” and web hosting to cost “from AUD $29.95” per month – with “unlimited storage space”.

So, when are proper hosted MYOB accounting solutions coming? Please read onto page 3.
