As games get larger and even more ambitious, the Blu-ray format’s much larger capacity will certainly come in handy, but that’s in the future – a future in which the Xbox 360 might also offer the same benefit, at least to Xbox 360 owners with a Blu-ray drive. But that of course takes us back to the multiple format problem. Developers won’t be keen to have a super-duper Blu-ray version of an Xbox 360 game, and a ‘lesser’ version for DVD Xbox 360s. But those are problems for the future, and the biggest problem right now for Microsoft is ensuring the user base of Xbox 360s keeps on growing, and growing fast. Putting in a Blu-ray drive, even if only to play movies – at least for now – is one guaranteed way to make the Xbox 360 that much more attractive against the competition that is the Sony Playstation 3.
