People Telecom has acquired the assets and customer base of hosted IP provider ValueNet.

ValueNet's virtual IP PABX service has points of presence in Sydney and Melbourne.

"Customers can avoid the costs of owning their own PABX, and enjoy guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) on their communications network, while also making significant savings on their overall communications costs," said People Telecom CEO John Stanton.

People Telecom will continue to support existing ValueNet distributors, and plans to increase the services offered by the platform, including virtual key systems and 4 to 32-line IP systems for small businesses, and trunking services.

As part of the deal, key technical and commercial staff from ValueNet have joined People Telecom.

The terms of the purchase were not disclosed, nor were details of any retrenchments at ValueNet.
