Sony says it has sold 12 million copies of its SingStar games in countries covered by the PAL versions of its consoles.

Although the first title was launched in 2004, five million of those sales occurred between April 2007 and March 2008.

Furthermore, one million tracks have been sold from the online SingStore since December 2007. Again, this figure relates only to the PAL region.

My SingStar Online - a feature introduced in the PS3 games - has attracting 140,000 registered users, and over 20,000 videos of SingStar performances that have been watched a total of 2.5 million times.

"SingStar's success is built upon simple and entertaining game play," said executive producer Paulina Bozek.

"Historically we have added new music tracks to keep the experience fresh but the arrival of PS3 has allowed us to think differently. We can now take advantage of the next-generation features to take the next step forward in the SingStar experience," sae added. "The launch of SingStore and My SingStar Online is the realisation of this and the experience is now more user-focused, personalised and interactive."

In addition to the international versions, localised editions such as SingStar Deutsch Rock Pop and SingStar Latino have proved successful.

Sony's PAL region covers Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia.
