Page 3 of 3 If you’re still using AVG 7.5 Free Edition, you’ve probably seen a pop-up appear on your screen. What it isn’t is an advertisement for AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0 – but an advertisement for the paid version. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that. AVG make great products – as do the vast majority of commercial Internet security vendors out there. But there will undoubtedly be some AVG Free 7.5 users wondering why AVG is suddenly asking them for money, even though they explain all the benefits of the paid AVG 8.0 Internet security suite solution. There’s nothing wrong with clicking on the link and typing in your credit card details to buy AVG 8.0 Indeed, it’s what AVG hope that many people are doing. But it is slightly – ever so slightly – an underhanded way to get as many people to pay as possible. Of course, anyone that does pay will get even better protection from AVG, with features and benefits unavailable in the free version. But if you want to skip the paid version, and continue with the free version, you’ll need to either go to the international AVG Free download site or the Australian AVG Free download site - which asks you to enter in some details before proceeding to the free download. AVG don’t point you to the free version in the pop-up. It’s basically a clever marketing tactic, one which I'm sure works quite nicely for AVG. Here’s what the pop-up looks like. ![]() Pop-up that AVG 7.5 users see to upgrade to AVG 8.0 paid edition Buy the paid version if you want, but at least you now know where to find the free version again! So... AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 Free is an excellent, worthy upgrade to what was already a great free anti-virus solution. It's just that the new version now comes with some extra goodies that make it even better. Thanks, AVG!
