Can a “case” be made for the black case on a 3G iPhone? Sure.

Iit’s simple, really. Already, the 2G iPhone has a black plastic strip on the back, where the iPhone’s GSM antenna lies.

Were the antenna behind metal, it’s efficiency would be greatly reduced.

Given the fact that the 3G iPhone is meant to operate on both the 2G, 3G and 3.5G frequencies, as well as having an internal GPS chip and antenna, much more plastic surface area is needed to send and deliver the clearest possible signals to and from a 3G iPhone.

So... it’s really is that simple. Unless Steverino has figured out some other clever way of getting signals out of – and into - the iPhone, in a similar manner to the way the 2G iPhone operates now, chances are that the rumour mongers – and information leakers – are spot on.

Which makes the 3G iPhone case pics, although fake, actually rather likely.

Look, no-one but Jobs and his ‘super secret testers’, or his manufacturers in China really know the truth about the 3G iPhone.

We all expect we’ll find out in July sometime. But we might all be forced to wait a lot longer.

So... keep your fingers crossed that the 3G iPhone appears sooner, rather than later.

And ponder the saying that, once you’ve gone black, you’ll never go back. Back to a metal casing, that is.
