Page 2 of 2 MySpace said that it had rolled out the Application Gallery in a “phased approach in order to give developers the opportunity to test their applications directly with MySpace users”. The second beta phase of the MySpace Developer Platform was announced on March 13, 2008, enabling developers to test their approved applications more broadly with MySpace users and see what other applications were being developed on the platform. MySpace says this strategy supports its “commitment to bring quality applications that are safe and that provide end-users with the best possible experience”. Chris DeWolfe, CEO and co-founder of MySpace said that: “The MySpace Application Gallery enables the most meaningful and diverse online experience available on the Internet to-date. MySpace was the original open platform, and the MySpace Application Gallery is the evolution of that vision, taking MySpace users around the world to the next level and empowering them to take control of their online presence in new and exciting ways.” MySpace says it is delivering “innovation and creativity” to its users, which “is a direct result of the company’s support of the developer community through the MySpace Developer Platform”. MySpace CTO Aber Whitcomb added: “Since launching the MySpace Developer Platform, we have had a tremendous opportunity to observe the remarkable ideas and creativity that today’s developer is capable of. We look forward to continuing to work with the developer community and provide the best possible integration within MySpace.” Reports that the rebel Facebook fleet is preparing for a mass assault against the MySpace Applications Gallery have been unable to be verified, although upon seeing the new Applications Gallery, one Facebook user was said to have remarked “that’s no moon...”. Shortly thereafter, another was overheard saying “look at the size of that thing...” in awe of the firepower MySpace has brought to bear against the rebellion’s own efforts. Oddly, two unusual robotic characters were seen tampering with MySpace source code, said to be looking for “secret plans”, although this has been dismissed as rumour. More reports as we get them.
