Ubuntu propagandist creates cool Vista dissing sticker E-mail

Ubuntu fan ‘Madman2k’ has created a cool sticker that looks very familiar – it takes the ‘Designed for Windows XP – Windows Vista Capable’ sticker and transforms it into one that Ubuntu and FOSS lovers... will love!

Besieged with comments at his website to actually make the Ubuntu sticker he designed, Madman2k, a self-professed Ubuntu propagandist, was clearly having some fun.

The sticker was actually created on the 23rd of February, 2007 – but on the very cusp of Ubuntu 8.04 ‘Hardy Heron’s’ release, it popped up on my radar and seemed like a very cool piece of artwork to share right at this very moment in time.

Apologies if you've already seen it, but it was new to me.

Although Microsoft lawyers would probably not be amused, the sticker created a lot of comments and brought out the usual Mac/PC/Linux arguments on the site.

Some of the comments at the site included comments like:

"I love it!! can I use it for an avatar?"

“Is this supposed to be funny? Even as a Linux user, I've got to say that this is the most juvenile thing I've ever seen outside of a toy store.”

Another commenter noted: "I'll bet you did that using GIMP. That's why it looks so crappy. You probably could've done a much better job if you had used Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Oh wait a minute, you can't use those quality programs with Ubuntu. Oh darn. Keep trying though, I'm sure you'll have it down before the next hot distro of Linsux comes around."

But that commenter was slapped down with: “Umm... hate to break it to you but... http://www.winehq.org/ and http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/ both let you do that. In fact I have microsoft office and counter strike: source running right now.”

There’s plenty more commentry at the site itself, as well as a high-res SVG format version of the logo, should you wish to print it out and have some fun.

Now the world awaits the final Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron countdown... and the start of what may finally kick of the biggest desktop Linux revolution the computing world has ever seen. We’ll see!
