Honda’s Satnav GPS warns of speed cameras, black spots – and crime spots? E-mail

But just as with auto manufacturers worldwide, modern cars in Japan are being increasingly tricked out with the latest electronics, satnavs and “safety systems”.

And why not? Cars are our bubble of security and comfort on the road, and just as everything else gets technologically upgraded to the max, it’s happening with our cars too.

If only the engines in those cars would go electric as quickly as modern electronics have been installed... but at least it is happening, if only slowly.

What will Japanese auto makers think of next? We’re still waiting for the car that can truly drive itself, but real world, useful information on crime rates is a pretty good new service for now that will probably find itself relatively rapidly rolled out worldwide.
