Microsoft: will you save Windows XP? E-mail

Of course some of those same XP users won’t be rushing to install XP3 just yet either, likewise waiting to see what the reports are on its affect on Windows XP SP2.

Look, it’s really simple, Microsoft. People want to buy – yes, pay money and buy – Windows XP. Why not give the people – your customers – what they want, at least for a while longer?

Those users might just see that Vista with SP1 has matured quite a lot, too – and decide to upgrade to Vista when they next upgrade their computers, instead of hanging onto XP for a bit longer.

But if you just rip XP out from the list of choices, you’ll do yourselves more bad PR damage than you could possibly imagine. It’s already started happening – there wouldn’t be a petition to Save XP otherwise.

So, Microsoft... please listen to your users. Listen to Steve Ballmer, the man at the top who freely admits Vista isn’t where he’d like it to be, the man who says he’s hearing what consumers are saying.

It sounds like if it was solely up to Ballmer, XP would continue. But with Microsoft’s massive corporate structure, decisions don’t seem to come from the top, but come from committees instead.

So, committee members. Will it hurt you to keep XP on sale for at least a year more, especially on the cusp of XP3’s release? Or are you willing to face the wrath of your users once more?

Save XP. It’s worth it, and you know it. Do it, and feel the positive press flow. This is one window you really don’t want to close... just yet!
