Page 1 of 3 In his blog, he lists the five (actually seven) problems he has, which he even says are really only four problems, as he had to more-or-less make the last one up, while ignoring the other two problems he listed as part of the fifth problem. Confused yet? To start with, Wolfe says he’s been the owner of an iPhone for two weeks. Two weeks! Has supposed tech journalist Wolfe been living under a rock or something? With so much 3G iPhone news and rumour hitting the airwaves, only someone with endless money would bother buying an iPhone right now, so close to the next generation, which may well have solved some of Wolfe’s so-called ‘issues’. He even goes to say that “the problem is that the iPhone is a great gadget and conversation-starter, but not yet a true corporate tool.” Once again, I can’t believe what I’m reading. Did Wolfe completely miss the March SDK event, where Steve Jobs outlined the new business oriented features for the iPhone 2.0 software, which everyone is assuming will come with an iPhone 2.0 (i.e 3G) hardware launch? Why even mention the lack of corporate friendly features, which are well known to all, but, it would seem, Alexander Wolfe? To push his point home, Wolfe’s first point is ‘Push Email’. Ah, here he mentions that Apple has enterprise email coming in iPhone 2.0. But Wolfe, being such a new iPhone owner, probably hasn’t had the chance to play with the web-based version of Gmail, which is far, far better than the iPhone’s built-in email client. Wolfe’s second point is his desire for faster web surfing, and his complaint that EDGE is too slow. As if this is news! It’s old, old, OLD news... and, EDGE isn’t that slow anyway. Perhaps Wolfe should look at this YouTube video comparing the 2G iPhone against a 3G Nokia E61 to see which one is faster at browsing the web. In any case, the supposed 3G iteration of the iPhone will fix this, and if Wolfe had bothered to wait just a few weeks more, rather than buying yesterday’s model on the cusp of the new one arriving, he might have written a very different post. Please read onto page 2 where I demolish more of Wolfe’s near-worthless wonderings... |
